Women's Business Plan Competition Results, 2008

Lisa Chan of ZaraCom Technologies won the$10,000 first prize, as well as a 9 month virtual office solution from Intelligent Office.  Prize Sponsors:

Colleen Nye and Dr. Loleta Robinson of Syan Biosciences and Jessica Feltz of The Turning Point: A Community Acupuncture Clinic tied for third place, a $2,500 prize.  At the awards ceremony, Paul Love of Foster, Soltoff & Love announced that he would award the full $2,500 amount to both companies.  Intelligent Office will also award both companies a 3 month virtual office solution.  Prize Sponsors:

Awards were presented at the 9th Annual Women in Business Conference on April 1.  The deadline for the 2008 StartRight! Competition is January, 2009:  plan to enter now!

Rockville Innovation Center Opens

The Rockville Innovation Center formally opened on June 12, 2007.  The RIC provides space and support programs for domestic technology startups, as well as for international technology companies interested in opening their first U.S. office. 

Initial incubator tenants included AID Networks LLC; Applied Wireless Local Area Network, Inc.: Clean Currents, LLC; Fuzbien Technology Institute; Griffin Enterprises, LLC; The Hamilton Group;  Keygene, Inc.; LiveHealthier; Penn Diagnostics; QRxPharma; RemeGenix, Inc.; Synaptic Science, LLC; Triton eReady Solutions; and ViroDefense, Inc.

Since the opening, the following tenants have joined the RIC:  BC Synergies; Brand Informatics, Inc.; BuildTopia; CAI; Data Guardian, Inc.; FedSalesConnect, LLC; Human Science, Inc.; ITTECOM; and Technology Digest

Rockville Economic Development, Inc. Executive Director Sally Sternbach visits China

Sternbach returned from a 17 day trip to Beijing, Shanghai, and Penglai on December 3, 2006.  She met with officials of the Shanghai Technology Innovation Center, the Maryland China Center Shanghai Office, the Baoding National High and New Technology Industrial Development Zone, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Science Tech Council of Beijing.  She and Mr. Wang Zengrong of the China Association for International Science and Technology Cooperation (CAISTC) signed a Memo of Understanding between REDI and CAISTC, to encourage mutual cooperation supporting the growth of both economies.  View the MOU.  Read Mr. Wang Zengrong's comments on the signing of the MOU.  Read Sally Sternbach's remarks regarding the signing of the MOU.
