ROCKVILLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR NAMED “WOMAN OF ACHIEVEMENT”

Suburban Maryland Business and Professional Women selects Sally Sternbach as award recipient

Rockville, MD (October 5, 2004)—The Suburban Maryland Business and Professional Women (BPW) has selected Sally Sternbach, Executive Director for Rockville Economic Development, Inc. (REDI), as this year’s recipient of the “Woman of Achievement” award.

Sternbach will be recognized for her achievement and contributions to the community along with other outstanding women on October 12, 2004 as part of the National Business Women’s Week. The “Women of Achievement” dinner will be held at the Holiday Inn, 2 Montgomery Village Avenue in Gaithersburg, MD beginning at 7:00 p.m.

In celebration of National Business Women’s Week, Suburban Maryland BPW issued an invitation to organizations in Montgomery County to nominate women of achievement. Sternbach was nominated by the Women Business Owners of Montgomery County (WBO of Montgomery County) in recognition for her outstanding career achievement, efforts in public policy, assistance to women to advance their careers, guidance to youth and other career women, and community service.

“Sally Sternbach is the epitome of a woman of achievement,” said Gayley Knight, President of WBO of Montgomery County. “Her extraordinarily active life is reflected in her successes in work and family. Not only has Sally been involved in corporate America directing both business development and community relations, her political and community contributions continue to make life in Maryland better for all of us,” she said.

Sternbach has served as the Executive Director for REDI, the City of Rockville’s economic development agency, since 2003. Prior to her position with REDI, Sternbach worked for AT&T Federal Systems in Washington, DC.

Sternbach has been actively involved in a number of civic organizations. She is President of Montgomery Women and serves as a board member for Community Ministries of Montgomery County and Pyramid Atlantic. She holds an MBA from West Virginia University, an MA in German from Brown University, and a BA in Psychology from Bucknell University.

The Business and Professional Women/USA and the BPW Foundation have sponsored National Business Women’s Week during the third week in October for the last 76 years. The Suburban Maryland BPW is the leading advocate for working women in Maryland and provides its members with opportunities to network, upgrade their career development, and support legislation for women.
